EMAG has introduced the MSC 5 DUO is a two-spindle, front-loading CNC turning centre developed for automated batch production.
The machine features a split-bed design, which separates the two work areas to prevent vibration transmission during simultaneous machining. This arrangement supports consistent dimensional accuracy across both spindles, particularly in high-demand processes.
The main spindles are configured to support a wide range of turning operations. Standard spindle power is 5.5 kW for continuous use and 7.5 kW for intermittent duty up to 30 minutes. An optional spindle version offers 7.5 kW continuous power and 11 kW for short-term operation. Maximum spindle speed is 4,500 rpm.
Torque is held constant between 1,125 and 4,500 rpm, which supports uniform cutting performance across varying materials and requirements. The A2-5 spindle nose accommodates chuck sizes up to 210 mm. Thermal stability is ensured through a precision spindle bearing arrangement and active cooling with temperature monitoring.
The machine features servo-driven turrets with a BMT interface, offering eight tool positions as standard and optional expansion to twelve.
The turret system supports internal tools up to 40 mm diameter and external tools with a 25x25 mm shank. Indexing is servo-controlled and hydraulically clamped, enabling reduced tool change times and accurate positioning.
The machine includes a fully integrated 3-axis gantry loading system for automated workpiece handling. All axes are servo-driven for precise and rapid movement. A built-in workpiece turner allows for complete two-sided machining within a single setup.
To enable unmanned operation, the machine incorporates a compact stacking storage system directly into its footprint.
The machine is equipped with the FANUC 0i-TF Plus CNC control, tailored for turning applications. It allows parallel programming during active machining, enabling preparation of the next job while production is ongoing. Additional functions include process monitoring and standardized interface compatibility for integration with MES and ERP systems.
